The 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

image3

Earth Day is leveraging Citizen Science and emerging technologies to engage one million global citizens in the 50th anniversary “Earth Challenge 2020,” collecting one billion data points to measure air quality, water quality, pollution and human health. This initiative is being developed in association with dozens of major partners in the science and health communities as well as leading technology companies.

Plant Trees

image4

Planting a tree is a lifelong investment  Trees  contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we breathe.

Plastic Pollution

image5

Around the world, one million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, while up to 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used worldwide every year. In total, half of all plastic produced is designed to be used only once — and then thrown away.

Green Cities

image6

A green city  improves the environment, ensures rich biodiversity, reduces air pollution, ensures water storage, dampens noise and help cooling down in warm periods. green is also essential for a climate-proof and sustainable environment.

TAKE ACTION

Environmental Literacy

image7

Education: Earth Day is building environmental and climate literacy worldwide. EDN will continue to work with teachers, students, innovators and thought leaders to educate and activate a new generation of environmental leaders around the world.

Beach Cleanups

image8

Cleaning  the beach also improves the coastal and ocean ecosystem by making sure that none of the trash kills marine life or is toxic enough to disrupt the marine life cycle.

TAKE ACTION

Protect Our Species

image9

Scientists tell us the best way to protect endangered species is to protect the special places where they live. Wildlife must have places to find food, shelter and raise their young

Artists for the Earth

image10

As Earth Day reaches its milestone 50th Anniversary in April 2020, nature and the environment are faced with enormous challenges from loss of biodiversity, pollution, degradation of our ecosystems, and climate change. Art must join with science to personalize climate change and disseminate it to a wider audience

TAKE ACTION

Food Waste and Environmental

image11

Environmental impacts. Food thrown into our garbage bin ends up in landfill. Because of the way food waste breaks down in landfill; it can create methane, a greenhouse gas. ... Reducing the amount of food waste in landfill will over time reduce the impact of waste on the environment, public health and amenity

Clean Water & Sanitation

image12

Clean water is essential not only to remain safe from disease but also to maintain good health. ... When it comes to the production of food, clean water  is an essential ingredient. If the crops and grains are given contaminated water, the bacteria and disease will spread to those who consume the fresh produce.
